Attiyah opens Civil Defence expo

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah opened the second edition of Civil Defence Exhibition at Qatar International Exhibition Centre (QIEC) here yesterday. Also present at the opening ceremony was the Minister of State for Interior H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and top officials from various Ministries. The three-day event will also be marked by a series of conference on fire safety solutions that would be kick-started at Ritz-Carlton today. The event showcased products of over seventy international and regional companies. Prodcuts ranged from security and safety solutions to green technology. A wide range of companies specialising in fire protection activities also displayed their latest products at the exhibition. Real Estate majors including BARWA and Qatari Diar; major companies in the oil and gas sectors and foreign universities including Texas A&M also made their presence at the event. The Dar Al Sharq Group, publishers of Al Sharq and The Peninsula dailies, are the organisers of the event under the patronage of the Ministry of Interior, and the General Administration of Civil Defence. After formally opening the event, Al Attiyah visited several stalls. He spent a few minutes at the pavilion put up by General Department of Civil Defence-Dubai and shared pleasantries with the UAE officials. Al Attiyah also spent time at the pavilions from the oil and gas sector, including those put up by QP. Qatar Fuel Company (Woqod) and Al Jazeera Satellite Network, Civil Defence, the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and Qatar Olympic Committee were among other stalls that he visited. Woqod is Gold Sponsor of the Exhibition. “Woqod has always enjoyed an excellent professional relationship with the Civil Defence and relies on them for guidance in all aspects of safety regarding the storage and distribution of refined oil products,” Woqod’s Vice Chairman and Managing Director Mohamed Turki Al Sobi said. Dr Russel Leavitt, Safety Expert, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will deliver the opening lecture at the “Conference of Safety First” today.
