From the next year, all lights on the streets and roads of Doha and its outskirts are to be operated centrally and maintained regularly says a report published in the local Arabic press.

The public works authority (Ashghal) has finalized a full-scale renovation and maintenance programme for all lights and lamp posts on the streets and roads at a cost of QR.24mn.

The latest system at a central control room will monitor the switching on and off of street lights at appointed timings. They would also keep track of the lamp posts that may either be damaged or faulty. Maintenance of all such faults will be attended to immediately.

This project is being implemented in response to many demands and discussions by the members of the Central Municipal Council. CMC members were very agitated due to the deplorable conditions of the lamp posts and lights on many of the roads and streets of Doha especially in the inner city.
