Artists make a difference for WED2011

The World Environment Day celebrations in Qatar continue to make a difference with the largest gathering of young artists for the Painting Contest last 27 May at the IAID premises. Over 1,300 participants starting age four (4) to adults in six (6) categories expressed the theme “I love Planet Earth” through coloring, drawing and painting. Each participant were given two (2) hours to complete their artwork using their own choice of art medium, from crayons, colored pencils, pastel, paint and mixed media. Alongside the contest is a film series on the environment enjoyed by the kids and their families! The entries are set to be judged on 29 May by a Panel of Judges from the Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar. There will be top three (3) winners from each category and ten (10) runners up while the school with the highest participation will be the recognized as the “Best Participating School” of the WED2011. Cash prizes, free IAID courses, gifts, certificates and trophies await the winners of the WED2011 contests that will culminate in the Prize Awarding Ceremony and Painting Exhibition of winning entries on 5th June at the Qatar National Theatre. Al Khaliji the premier Bank sponsoring this year’s event, as part of its commitment to the environment and to supporting the next generation of talented youths. Qatar Fertilizer Company (QAFCO) actively joins the WED2011 celebrations as Gold Sponsor. Inspired by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Academy for Intercultural Development (IAID) continues to organize this event on its fifth year now in association with the Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) under the auspices of Dr. Saif Ali Al Hajari, Chairman of Friends of the Environment Centre. WED2011 is a significant advocacy shared by the collective efforts of IAID, FEC, Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar along with Prize Sponsors, Faber-Castell, Intercontinental Hotel Doha, Ramada Hotel, W Hotel with official online partner, iLoveQatar.net and official media partner, Qatar Tribune.
