Archaeology and Museums Conference begins today The three-day GCC Archaeology and Museums Conference will begin at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel today. Hosted by Qatar Museums Authority (QMA), in collaboration with leading archaeologists and travel operators, the conference will discuss crucial issues including how the GCC's archaeology and museum sector could be developed matching to the world's major museum and archaeological destinations. Scholars from UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and KSA will join Qatari experts and representatives of the GCC organising committee to debate 18 topics during the 3-day meeting. Archaeological survey and excavation, publication of the Archaeology and Museums Experts and Workers Guide, archaeological law and creation of the first electronic database of GCC archaeological sites are among other issues to be discussed at the meet. Highlighting the conference's importance, Abdullah Al Najjar, CEO of Qatar Museums Authority, said the conference is the result of great efforts made by GCC countries to lead the regional museum and archaeology sectors to reach international levels which Qatar has initiated with the Museum of Islamic Art. "It is a great honor for QMA and Qatar to host this prestigious conference. We warmly welcome the GCC's leading archaeologists to share knowledge and exchange ideas for the benefit of all," Al Najjar added.
