The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union yesterday said it hoped Arab countries did not keep the issue of economic integration within the region on the backburner due to the global economic crisis. “This is a major worry, “Mohamed Jasem Al Sifr, Head of Arab Parliament, told the Summit in his address. He also urged Iran to hand over the disputed islands to the UAE. The African Union (AU), meanwhile, said it was backing the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Bashir to the hilt. Al Bashir, against whom an international arrest warrant has been issued, was also present when the AU representative was addressing the Summit. The representative also called for more Arab-Africa dialogue to foster added cooperation between Arab and African countries. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=March2009&file=Local_News2009033151651.xml
