The Department of Traffic and Patrol said yesterday it had plans to soon install radars at every traffic intersection in and around Doha city to prevent motorists from violating speed limits. “We are awaiting fresh stocks of radars to arrive. As soon as we get them we will be installing them at each and every intersection,” Brigadier Mohamed Marfia, from the safety wing of the traffic and patrol department, told this newspaper. When told that motorists had a field day in the Musherib area, especially, and were jumping traffic lights, he said: “We are aware and we are soon going to install radars there too.” The violators will be caught and punished as per the provisions of the traffic law. When reminded that the Musherib locality, which is popularly known as the National Area, was earmarked for demolition in about a year from now to pave way for modern structures and amenities, the official said: “We know that and when the demolitions begin we would naturally be taking the radars away from the roads there.” But as long as the structures in the area are not demolished and the vehicular traffic is moving on its busy roads with motorists flouting traffic rules, radars are a necessity, said Marfia.
