Whether on TV, internet, or radio, uninterrupted ads can be annoying at best, and downright unbearable at worst. Yet, without a doubt they’re one of the top ways that media channels make money to survive – yes, even ILQ’s YouTube as well!

According to statistics, YouTube is the second most- visited website in Qatar – and the good folks over at YouTube are beginning to realize that those 30-second un-skippable adverts sometimes ruin the user’s video-watching experience. Imagine 30-seconds of ads ahead of our new ILQ Test Drive series videos? Would you stick around to watch them? (We hope so!)

In an official statement from YouTube announced on Friday, February 17, 2017, the site will stop supporting these kinds of ads starting in 2018 – but the catch is there’s no exact date that’s yet be released stating when in 2018 users can expect to enjoy video viewing sans interruption.

The official word from YouTube is as follows:

“We're committed to providing a better ad experience for users online. As part of that, we’ve decided to stop supporting 30-second un-skippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers.”
