Qatar population crosses 2.34 million mark in June

Qatar’s population crossed the 2.34 million mark in June, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics announced yesterday.

The population was 2.15 million in June 2014. In other words, more than 193,000 people entered the country in a year until last June.

According to monthly statistics released by the Ministry for June, visitors to Qatar increased by 7.3 percent in the month over June 2014.

Visitors from the neighbouring GCC countries had the largest share in the total, with their ratio reaching 40.7 percent.

Vehicles registered in June totalled 9,933 up slightly from May, 2015 when their number was 9,853. Radar-related violations totalled 79,771, accounting for a majority of the total.

Traffic violations recorded in June totalled 126,503, up almost 13 percent in a year. Some 1,932 of these violations were serious offences of jumping the red light.

The bulletin put the number of Qatari births in June at 500 (283 male, and 213 female), while non-Qatari births recorded were 1,502 (775 male and 727 female).

As for deaths, 59 were recorded in the Qatari community (35 men and 24 women), while 113 deaths were recorded among non-Qataris in the month, 14 being women.

Passenger arrivals in the month totaled more than 1.17 million (1,178,5200 while departures recorded were 1,196, 474.

Some 400 driving licences were issued to Qataris in the month of June and the number was much larger at 7,409 for non-Qataris.

The US, China and the UAE were the top three origins of imports in the month while Japan, South Korea and India continued to be the three major destinations for Qatari exports.
