There was a grand opening of an Italian restaurant that arrived from the past. You might think it came from Italy, but you’re mistaken. It was born here. It all started back in the 70s when an Italian woman named Redenta Zanon came to Qatar and started cooking her Italian food. But what was so special about her food is that all her ingredients were from Qatar. She used to make her pasta, bread and sauces from scratch. It was hard importing food from Italy to Qatar back in the 1970s.
Years later, her grandson kept talking about her food and how she used to love cooking Italian food using Qatar’s organic products to his friends in Qatar. Just as these men from different nationalities were talking and sipping coffee, they had an idea to make those memories into a restaurant and introduce the history and the Italian-Qatari flavors to people in Qatar. Then the restaurant Nonna Zanon came to life
This restaurant serves great food and has a great bustling social vibe. Their potato pasta tastes like freshly mashed potatoes covered with a tomato sauce that is freshly picked from a vegetable garden. Their beef tortellini tastes like creamy, delicious pieces of pasta in the mouth. I saw children having the time of their lives, enjoying the food and juices. This restaurant is such a family-friendly place where you feel like your part of a big Italian family.
It was wonderful meeting the executive chef Andrea, as he was full of life and love.
The restaurant maintains Nonna Zanon’s legacy of cooking everything from scratch using fresh ingredients.
Nonna Zanon offers a wonderful experience of history, legacy, good food, lovely environment, and an upbeat evening.
