Every Thursday, ILQ features a different Qatari startup in our ‘Startup of the Week’ segment. Qatar has some of the most creative, unique, and impactful startups in the region, and we cover them all across a variety of industries in Doha—from fashion and beauty, to food and dining, health, education, and more!

This week, we're stocking fresh supplies for Healthy Global Trade (HGT)—the voice of the food distribution company that aims to orient the people of Qatar regarding organic food and healthy eating habits!

As an advocate for living green and being constantly in the lookout for healthy options to offer to Doha residents, especially families with small kids, HGT is dedicated to ensure that the aisles located in major supermarkets in the country are stocked with products which are healthy, organic, and gluten-free.

Currently, HGT is more focused on distributing kids and babies' food from Italy, Germany, & Spain. This made the products that the company bring to Qatar get stocked and sold in major supermarket chains in the country including Al Meera, Geant, Spar, Monoprix, and Carrefour.

HGT General Manager Ziad El Chemaitelli shared that they always want people to keep in mind the benefits of living healthy especially in a progressive country like Qatar. He continued: "When the team sits together to select the items that we will bring to Doha, our primary concern is always the products' consumer. If we all agree that they're going to cater to the whole family, then we'll give the products a green light."

Ziad's dynamic team has been supplying healthy food to Qatar since October last year with the core vision of filling the missing gap in the healthy food industry and tighten the bond of families in Qatar in an organic way.

"Our first product was fresh dairy and we bring it on a weekly basis to Qatar through air shipment from Lebanon. Because of its good quality, we started delivering to almost every deli section in major supermarket chains in Doha," said Ziad.

HGT's humble beginnings proved that the Qatar market is indeed in big need of healthy products. This realization made Ziad and his whole distribution team to source healthy food for kids and concentrate on providing organic products from Europe as most of them are free of chemicals and guarantees a quality standard—despite several consumers' thinking that European products are more on the pricey side.

When asked about HGT's advantage compared to its fellows, Ziad has this to say: "Well, I must say that one thing that makes us stand out is the fact that we highly prefer quality over quantity and that we're more family-oriented just like what I've mentioned a while ago."

Ziad noted to conclude that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are definitely beneficial to the economic growth of Qatar because as the world trend evolves, so as the new generation's interests. "They're not looking for bulk commercial products anymore... they prefer to have specific and tailored products and this opens a room for us SMEs to employ staff and spend most of their income in Qatar."

"And if any existing companies out there would like to collaborate with us, we're very much open to the possibility."
