Every Thursday, ILQ features a different Qatari startup in our ‘Startup of the Week’ segment. Qatar has some of the most creative, unique, and impactful startups in the region, and we cover them all across a variety of industries in Doha—from fashion and beauty, to food and dining, health, education, and more!

This week, we're hanging the stethoscope to At-Home-Doc (AHD)—Qatar's one-stop app which brings locally-licensed doctors at the convenience of your doorsteps in no time! At a push of a button, you get to choose the medical service you need on their mobile app, and it doesn't end there yet. After pinning your location, your consultation starts right away with a call back from their triage nursing team.

AHD's team is well-trained to ask you only the right questions in order to assess your medical condition and assure non-emergency before your request gets assigned to one of their doctors on the road. Not only that, they also deliver medication through a partner pharmacy and arrange laboratory home services—as well as imaging services bookings—when needed.

Talking to AHD's founder and Chief Executive Officer Hesham Elfeshawy, he said that the relevance of the app's presence in Qatar is quite high, as the state is vibrant and its vast majority have jobs and is busy with it. He didn't fail to also mention the big chunk that expats occupy in Qatar's overall population.

"The value that AHD offers is indispensable since we offer our customers the convenience to access the needed care at the comfort of their own home! The app also reduces the time wasted in traffic while traveling to hospitals or clinics, and above all, the convenience of avoiding long waits with other sick people lining up in one place, hence reducing the risk of picking up infections," Hesham aded.

The young engineer/entrepreneur was as well happy to share that AHD gained its popularity through word of mouth. He testified by saying: "It also helped that our service is personal, reliable and trust worthy, and we have the patients right at the center of everything we do and we are totally committed to delivering the ultimate healthcare experience to our customers."

In addition, AHD is the only healthcare facility in Qatar that measures its Net Promoter Scorers (NPS), according to Hesham. He added that AHD's average NPS is 82, which is phenomenal, as it effortlessly beats Amazon's.

Hesham has nothing but good words for the government of Qatar especially when it comes to its health sector. "We are fortunate to be in Qatar, Qatar has one of the best healthcare systems across the world and it's ranked #1 in the Arab world too. The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) here is exerting extensive efforts to regulate and raise the bar in the private and public sectors."

Also, AHD's doctors are fully-equipped with all the needed clinical tools treatments and kits which allows them to perform all the examinations needed as per the Australian latest clinical guidelines by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

In a little time over a year, AHD has visited more than 1800 patients in Qatar and they are steadily growing to approximately 21% every month. They applied for incubation at the Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) and from that day on, ADH has grown and easily became a household name not only in Qatar but in the whole MENA region.

When asked whether startups like AHD is beneficial to the economic growth of the country, Hesham has this to say: "Technology-based startups has a bigger chance to become global and turn to unicorns due to the nature of its industry and the market place. But it really requires a lot of hard work, collaboration, coordination and support."

In the end, Hesham advised young entrepreneurs to dream big, work hard, and find a good team in order to become successful in their chosen fields.

The AHD app's first version, which was launched last November, has reached 16,000 downloads and has more than 6000 active users. The team is currently working on the final version of the app due for launching by the end of August and they are adopting a whole new engagement strategy with their community of users as they aspire to be the first choice for acute and non-emergent medical care.

The At-Home-Doc app also provides:

  • Checkup services in coordination with their partner Gulf laboratories.
  • Kids' health services which is subscription based service for monitoring the growth
  • Development of children at the comfort of their own homes
  • Physiotherapy through locally licensed reputable partner clinics

At-Home-Doc's service is round the clock—they never close. Their toll free number is 800177. They have also recently introduced live chat to their website, where people can chat with the AHD medical team.
