Qatar is seeking to close a $124 million military sale with the United State which includes the purchase of patrol boats and machine guns.
The State Department said in a statement that it has made a determination approving a possible foreign military sale to Qatar for Mk-V Fast Patrol Boats, equipment, training, and support.
The statement said this proposed sale will provide Qatar with military capabilities to protect its critical sea-based infrastructure and maritime security.
Qatar will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces, it said.
It added that the proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country.
The principal contractor will be United States Marine Incorporated (USMI), the State Department said, adding that training and maintenance support would continue for five years. (Source)
