A new post office will be opened in Najma next month, a senior official said.

Q-Post recently made an announcement on its website that the post office on Abdul Aziz Street in Al Asmakh near Musheireb would be relocated to a new building on C-Ring Road.

The official told Gulf Times Q-Post was all set to take possession of the building in Najma and the new branch would start there soon. “The new post office may start a week or two after Eid al-Fitr,” he said.

The post office in Al Asmakh was closed in view of the commercial and residential developments taking place in the area.

This leaves residents of places such as Musheireb and the old downtown area without a post office in their vicinity. The nearest options for them are the branches at Al Meera in Mansoura and Muntazah, or the General Post Office close to the Corniche.

According to the Q-Post website, the new branch will be set up opposite the Gulf Times building on C-Ring Road.

With the opening of the new office, there will be four branches of Q-Post in close proximity. Already, post offices are functioning at Woqod fuel station (Al Hilal), Teyseer (Airport Road) and LuLu Hypermarket (D-Ring Road). Besides, there are Q-Post branches at Al Meera (Mansoura) and in Muntazah.

Najma had a post office located near Souq Haraj which was closed down in 2011. Since then, there have been demands from residents to open a post office in the area.

The new branch will help meet the requirements of people in the densely populated area.

Last year, Q-Post decided to close the Al Mirgab post office due to “reasons beyond its control.”
