Millennium Hotel Doha has joined the international community and Qatar Tourism Authority in honoring Earth Day on Saturday 28th March 2014. The international move aims to raise global awareness on climate change and energy consumption, as well as encourage Qatar’s population to contribute to the Earth’s sustainability.
As the hotel switched off its lights for the duration of one hour between 8:30 pm. and 9:30 pm, guests and visitors were encouraged to take part in activities that have been organized to fill the time slot. Furthermore, a dinner offering a range of international cuisine was presented in buffet style and prepared in a candlelit setting.
Commenting on the event, Pierre Ghorayeb said: “Earth Hour is an opportunity for the international community to put their differences aside and join hands for positive change. The topic of sustainability has been increasingly a strong focus in recent years, highlighting that we all have a responsibility in climate change and the effects it has on the Earth we live in. A small action can benefit this cause such as switching the lights when not in use or decreasing water usage when it is not needed. We believe this is a social responsibility requiring immediate global attention, and we would like to thank all our participating guests and visitors who have joined us in communicating this message.”
The activities also gave guests and visitors an opportunity to connect, and stir their attention away from the constant use of technological devices such as cell phones.
