The Qatar National Day celebrations will be held under the ‘One Love’ theme this year, highlighting the bond shared between Qataris and expatriates who have made Qatar their home away from home. On December 18, the national anthem will be played at 8am followed by a parade of schoolchildren at each location, which then will be followed by the various activities till 10pm.

Al-Wakrah stadium

Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities will perform their cultural shows,thematic dances, songs, comedy show and more. Pakistan Education Centre, Bangladesh MHM School, Bhavans Indian School and DPS-MIS will compete with parade, songs, dances and thematic shows. Football and basketball matches will also be held, where winners will be awarded a prize of QR10,000 and QR5,000, respectively.

Al Rayyan indoor stadium

Filipino, Malaysian and Indonesian community members will give performances, while at Al Khor Sports Stadium, Nepalese expats and Al Khor community members will stage shows.

Flag of Gratitude & Loyality

“Flag of Gratitude & Loyality” Campaign is a national project by the State of Qatar presented to Guinness Book of Records as the largest flag in the world. Aiming to highlight the deep unity and brotherhood among our loyal people and wise leadership, and to display the humanitarian and patriotism senses in this campaign, as the project seeks also to convey the message of loyalty to His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and tribute to His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani for their great efforts and sincere dedication witnessed by the whole world and seen on ground by citizens and residents. So the flag become a concrete evidence expressing the profound love and loyalty of people to their leadership and to remain a testimony for future generations.

Souq Waqif

QND celebrations inside the Souq include traditional dance and music performances. Darb Al Saai grounds in Al Sadd

Darb al-Saai, one of the major attractions of the QND 2013 celebrations at the Al Sadd area. Open from 8-18th December from 8am - 12 noon and from 3:30pm-10pm, Darb al-Saai features the enactment of a number of traditional activities. Ardha - the sword dance, exhibitions of hunting falcons and vintage cars, demonstration of basket and mat weaving, preparation of traditional delicacies, and camel and horse riding are among the activities. Coming alive in the afternoon, Darb al-Saai also features playgrounds for children to engage in traditional games and song-and-dance routines.

Apart from entertainment, each venue will also provide different services to the public. Blood sugar levels checks will be done at all venues in co-operation with the Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, MoI’s Medical Services Department, Qatar Red Crescent and many private clinics. Blood donation camps will also be organised at Westend Park and Al Rayyan sports stadium. Each venue will also have dining and praying areas, restaurants and emergency medical services.

Transportation

Corniche Road to close on Saturday for four hours The Corniche Road will be closed for four hours from 5am on Saturday for rehearsals of the National Day parade. Around 70 buses will be conducting shuttle services to the Corniche on the National Day to transport people attending the day-long celebrations. People can catch the buses at parking spots near the Central Post Office, Qatar Petroleum building, Souq Waqif and the Qatar Sports Club.

Qatar National Day Warnings

- Placing pictures, posters and flags on the entire car

- Completely changing the look and colour of the vehicle

- Shading the windshield and rear window of the car, obstructing the driver’s view (both of the road in front of him and behind the car)

- Hiding the car plates

- Climbing on to the roof and bonnet of a car

- Getting out through the car’s windows and sunroof, which exposes passengers to the risk of falling down, besides affecting the control of the driver

- Blocking traffic and parking in no-parking zones
