Aragh Sous is a beverage that you surely need a taste for! The beverage is made with liquorice root and offers a taste that sways between sweet & bitter.
Although not such a typical beverage ingredient, Aragh Sous is favoured for its refreshment after a long day of fasting.
A classic Ramadan beverage that truly combines the essence of the season is Jallab. The beverage combines traditional ingredients such as date molasses and rose water topped with pine nuts or almonds, serving up an earthy yet refreshing drink.
Karakade is a true energy-revitalizing drink with a herbal infusion of hibiscus. This beverage could be classified as a hibiscus iced tea as it is prepared by boiling and steeping dry hibiscus flowers in hot water, which is then stirred in with sugar and cooled.
Qamar El Din is an apricot-based sweet beverage that complements most Iftar tables in Qatar and in the Arab region. The beverage typically holds a thick consistency as it is made using a dry apricot paste, or some would like to call it 'Apricot leather' due to its appearance.
The apricot paste goes through a stove-top dissolving process in boiling water or even a blending procedure. Sugar is added to preference.
Tamer Hindi is a simple yet flavoursome thirst quencher which is made using basic ingredients such as tamarind, water & sugar! The sweet-sour beverage is much-loved for its cooling abilities after a day of fasting.
One of the much-loved drinks of choice for kids and adults during the month of Ramadan is the sweet cordial known as 'Vimto'. The grape and berry-infused cordial is typically combined with water or sodas, making for a light yet sweet beverage with a tinge of a sour taste.
The cordial can typically be purchased at any supermarkets or hypermarkets around Doha or you could even try out the multiple variants of Vimto in the form of mojitos and other refreshing beverages that restaurants & cafes serve.
