Are QNL and other libraries in Qatar reopening for the public when Phase 2 starts on 1 July 2020 as Qatar gradually lifts restrictions placed on different establishments in March 2020 as the coronavirus spread across the country? Read on to find out!

What's reopening in July

Qatar National Library (QNL) looks forward to welcoming you from 15 July with limited services, limited hours and limited capacity.

Reopening precautionary measures at QNL

Because your safety and the safety of our staff is QNL's top priority, the library will be reopening with measures in place to help reduce the risk of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Visits will be by appointment only during one of two daily slots: 9:00 – 11:00 AM or 12:00 – 2:00 PM, Sunday through Thursday. The Library will be closed on weekends. Book your visit through QNL's online form, which will be available soon.
  • To check out books, you must submit a hold request in advance, as the shelving tiers are closed. Librarians will prepare the books for you to pick up. A mechanism for submitting a book hold will be announced soon on this page.
  • Only patrons with a green status on the EHTERAZ app will be allowed access. Your temperature will also be checked at entry.
  • You are required to wear a mask at all times.
  • Only patrons aged 13 to 60 are permitted entry.
  • DVDs, CDs, iPads, headphones, chargers or other items will not be available.
  • Observe social distancing guidelines at all times. Gatherings are limited to five people or fewer.
  • Individual study carrels and computer stations are open.
  • The restaurant and café are closed, and the vending machines will not work as well.
  • Borrowed items will still be automatically renewed until further notice. However, you can return borrowed items, if you wish to, starting 1 July using QNL's Drive-Thru Book Return Station in front of the building or the bins that will be available at the Library's main entrance for this purpose.
