W Doha Hotel & Residences, the first luxury lifestyle hotel in Qatar, proudly welcomed students of Step by Step Centre as part of a special training programme held last month. The initiative is in line with the broader CSR philosophy of Marriott International program, ‘Spirit to Serve’, which is aimed at supporting the community and addressing social issues.

Starting October 2nd, about 15 students from Qatar’s esteemed special needs centre enrolled in the 6-week intensive training programme that focused on developing functional skills. Through a series of fun and interactive activities and sessions, participants were taught how to perform everyday activities ranging from folding napkins, making beds, baking and meal preparation.

W Doha’s vibrant settings provided an uplifting environment conducive to learning, as the team partnered with the school’s staff in engaging and educating young minds with special needs on how to perform day to day life activities that will maximise their potenial. The programme concluded on November 6th with a grand graduation ceremony attended by both staff members, parents and participating students.

Commenting on the event, Director of Step by Step Centre, Nasreen Sharif, said: “In collaboration with W Doha, our students participated in a six-week training programme that included baking, setting up tables and beds, and various other functional skills. This was a valuable learning programme for our students as they had a chance to practice many skills, which will be useful in their day to day functioning as well as help with possible work placements in the future. This is one of the missions of Step by Step Centre along with ensuring that our students have a chance to participate in community activities. We would like to thank the entire team of W Doha for their continuous support and initiating this remarkable program for our students.”
