You might see someone walk into a room or walking passed you and hear them say Salam (which means peace and is a greeting). It's part of the friendly culture to greet people even if you don't know them. Of course when it's a friend you see, the greeting would last much longer. Make sure you assess the situation though. You don't want to disturb someone especially when they are with family. So don't be shy, say hello/salam.
