If you’re a keen grower of plants, or interested in going green, then this week’s episode of MBG is for you!

I take a quick tour of one of Qatar’s hidden gems – the Government Plant Nursery – a top spot for buying a range of outdoor plants that will save your hard-earned cash!

Operated and managed by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the nursery is located near the old airport and offers a selection of seedlings and plants – from flowering plants such as roses, to exotic fruits such as grapes and mangoes.

Although we live in a desert climate with arid conditions and harsh temperatures throughout summer, the green community in Qatar continues to grow steadily each year with more people creating successful mini-gardens filled with fruit, vegetables, and plants.

You can drop by the nursery throughout the working week (Sunday to Thursday) or just download the Baladiya app (Android and iOS versions available) where you can view a range of plants, pre-order online, and collect your plants from the nursery within 72 hours. Payment must be made by credit card on-arrival. The app also allows you to request other services such as wastewater removal, tree-trimming, and pest control.

So, if you’re looking to create a greener and healthier environment – or just enjoy growing at home, be sure to add this hidden gem to your list! Have you been to the nursery? What bargains did you find?
