For 10 years, the Karaana lagoon was a dumping ground for industrial wastewater which formed a contaminated layer of sludge in some areas and increased pollutants in the environment.
Today, thanks to the completion of the reclamation and rehabilitation project of the Karaana Lagoon by Ashghal – The Public Works Authority on 16 November 2019, the area has been transformed from a dumping ground for industrial wastewater into a healthy natural environment and home to wildlife.
