Qatar foundation launched ability friendly program support people disabilities during world cup

Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) launched the Ability Friendly Program aimed at helping people with disabilities, both residents and visitors, explore Qatar, and ensure accessibility for all.

The guide was designed according to the personal experiences and recommendations of a group of people with different disabilities in Qatar. It includes multiple formats, in addition to text and Braille versions, with the availability of more than 30 landmarks of tourist attractions and various experiences related to cultural aspects, parks, entertainment venues, community activities, the Qatar 2022 experience, transportation, and iconic locations.

It will also provide audio descriptive commentary services on football matches in Arabic, and sensory assistance rooms for fans of different abilities at stadiums of Al Bayt, Lusail, and Education City, in addition to designing all match sites, in line with accessibility standards in terms of parking, seats, restrooms, and places to buy food, for the target groups.

Chief Communications Officer at Qatar Foundation, Mayan Zebeib said the comprehensive guide for all aims to enable everyone with different abilities to explore Qatar, ensure accessibility, and promote a diverse culture among all parties.

Director-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Yasser Al Jammal, said the goal of easy access comes at the forefront of preparations to host the first edition of its kind of the World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world, pointing out that hosting this tournament played a key role in enhancing accessibility for the target groups in Qatar.

Head of Marketing Planning Department at Qatar Tourism Sheikha Hessa Al-Thani mentioned that Qatar's commitment to facilitating access to all groups demonstrates its willingness to welcome all fans of all abilities and to ensure that they enjoy the best that the destination has to offer.
