NATO has expressed on June 23 their readiness to provide security support to the State of Qatar during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The major sports event will take place from November 21 to December 18.

The alliance said in a statement that the support will include training against threats posed by chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) materials. This training will be delivered by Slovakia and NATO’s Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence in the Czech Republic. It will also conduct trainings on the protection of VIPs and countering threats from improvised explosive devices; these training will be offered by Romania.

A first training session dealing with Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threats was already conducted this past May in Slovakia.

As per NATO, the State of Qatar has been an important partner that has engaged actively with the alliance for many years.
