On 15 December 2022, the Moroccan Football Federation submitted an official protest to the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) regarding the arbitration cases in the semi-final match against France in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which ended in a 2-0 loss.
The Federation said in a statement: "The Royal Moroccan Football Association (FEM) strongly protested against the arbitration of the Moroccan national team's match against the French national team, led by (the Mexican) Cesar Arturo Ramos Palazuelos," explaining that it had sent a letter to the competent authority that included arbitration cases that denied the national team The Moroccan from two clear penalty kicks, according to the testimony of arbitration specialists, expressing surprise at the same time that the video assistant referee (VAR) room was not alerted to this."
Officials in the Moroccan Federation are protesting against the blocking of striker Sofiane Boufal inside the penalty area by defender Theo Hernandez, and instead of awarding a penalty kick, a yellow card was awarded, while the second case relates to Aurélien Tchouaméni holding midfielder Selim Amallah inside the area, following a corner kick.
