SC holds flag-raising celebration for Saudi Arabia, Japan, Uruguay after qualifying for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) organized on Friday, 25 March 2022, a celebration at the Doha Corniche on the occasion of the qualification of the teams of Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Uruguay for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

Ecuador also qualified on Thursday (March 24), bringing the official list of qualified countries to 19. Thirteen more spots are available.

H.E. SC Secretary-General Hassan Al Thawadi, CEO of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar Nasser Al Khater, Secretary-General of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) Mansour Al Ansari, Chief of Tournament Experience Khalid Al Mawlawi attended the ceremony along with H.H. Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the State of Qatar Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Farhan Al-Saud, H.E. Ambassador of Japan to the State of Qatar Satoshi Maeda, and H.E. Ambassador of Uruguay to the State of Qatar Jorge Antonio Sere Sturzenegger.

The flag-raising celebration came as a welcome to the three teams that qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and their fans in Qatar, which will host the event at the end of 2022.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on this occasion, H.H. Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the State of Qatar Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Farhan Al-Saud expressed his happiness that his country qualified for the sixth time in its history for the World Cup finals.

He added that the source of his happiness is the hosting of the great event in the sisterly State of Qatar, which adds a lot to the Saudi football-loving fans who will flock to Doha to support the Saudi team. He said that great hopes and ambitions are placed on the Saudi team to achieve the best results after it has received the necessary experience and capabilities to reach advanced stages in the biggest football event in the world.

Speaking to QNA, H.E. Ambassador of Japan to Qatar Satoshi Maeda expressed pride in his country's qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. He explained that the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is held for the first time in the Middle East, so the Japanese fans would come in large numbers to support the Samurai team.

The Japanese team has great experience playing in the World Cup finals, so it is expected to perform well, making the Japanese happy, whether those who will come to Doha to see the matches or those who will watch them on television, he added.

H.E. Ambassador of Uruguay to Qatar Jorge Antonio Sere Sturzenegger considered his country's qualification for the World Cup in Qatar an opportunity to have a unique experience in the finals and provide the best performance.

He added that Qatar will organize a unique tournament in terms of organization and facilities, pointing out that Uruguay fans who will come to support their country will find a special tournament, especially as they are very passionate about football, and are all hopeful that Luis Suarez's colleagues will achieve impressive results in Qatar.

SC, the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar organizer, had previously raised the flags of England, Switzerland, Serbia, Spain, Croatia, the Netherlands, Argentina, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, France, Iran, and South Korea in addition to the flag of the State of Qatar (host), to welcome the qualifying countries for the World Cup.
