Doha metro expected operate 21 hours over 500 000 passengers per day min

Update as of 12 October 2022: Doha Metro services will operate from 6 am to 3 am Saturday to Thursday, and from 9 am to 3 am on Fridays during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

This includes 37 metro stations, 7 tram stations, and an entire fleet of trains and trams.

The headway has been enhanced to 165-second duration intervals per train to increase capacity on all three lines.

Metrolink feeder services to operate 43 lines and serve 23 Metro stations.

Park & Ride facilities will be available at 13 metro stations and will provide a total of 18,200 parking spaces.

This was announced during the Transportation Briefing held on 12 October 2022 by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy.

Al Sharq newspaper reported on 4 October 2022 insights of the Doha Metro preparations for the World Cup 2022 as revealed by Abdullah Saif Al-Sulaiti, Head of Operations Affairs Sector at Qatar Rail Company.

As per the report, Doha Metro is expecting approximately 500,000 to 700,000 passengers a day during the tournament.

To cater to the needs of the capacity and tournament requirements, Doha Metro is preparing to double the correct capacity and extend operational hours to more than 21 hours a day.

Abdullah Saif Al-Sulaiti mentioned that Qatar Rail is looking to ensure that the crowd will be managed and transported in a safe and smooth manner with adherence to safety and security standards.

The key topics discussed regarding the plans put in place for the World Cup were crowd management and control, key risks, and emergency preparedness.
