As announced in an article by Reuters, Canada qualified for the World Cup for just the second time in history on March 27, 2022, after 36 years of failure. They secured their place by beating Jamaica 4-0.

The success was also announced in an enlightening tweet by FIFA.

Although Canada made their win, Mexico and the United States still await to secure a place FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™️ despite their wins against Costa Rica.

Canada's victory brought them to a leading 28 points in the CONCACAF qualifying group. This also placed them at three points ahead of the United States and Mexico, while Costa Rica despite beating El Salvador 2-1 happens to be three points behind.

Three teams that made it to the top were able to earn an automatic places in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™️ , whilst the fourth-place finisher who will be facing an Oceania team in an intercontinental playoff for another placement.

Remaining for the group will be Mexico hosting El Salvador on 30 March 2022, which will also be when the United States will travel to San Jose to face Costa Rica, amidst which Canada wraps up their campaign confronting Panama. It would just take a draw for Mexico and the United States to grant themselves an automatic positioning.

The last World Cup that the Canadian team played for was in Mexico in the year 1986; wherein, they failed in all three games played without a single goal scored.

Canadian coach John Herdman went on to express the sentiment of the glorious after many longing years by saying:

"I think this country never believed in us because we've given them nothing to believe in", "They believe now."

As understood from the article, the pro-longed period of non-achievement for the Canadian team was one of distraught given that regardless of whether they played in their home country or host country, the fan support was never in their favour. However, after 36 years the tables had turned and they had their win clinched from start to end with the support they needed.
