Al Jazeera reported on Thursday, 29 December, that Brazilian football legend Pelé has died from cancer, as confirmed by his agent, Joe Fraga.
Pelé had a tumour removed from his colon in September 2021. He was admitted to the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo on November 29.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pelé, was a three-time World Cup winner and is Brazil’s leading goal scorer, with 77 goals in 92 games.
During the World Cup, fans have shown support by displaying "get well soon" messages in matches and in several areas in Qatar.

A get well soon message to Pelé was displayed on the Al Jaber Twin Towers in Lusail. The retired football player is currently confined at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Brazil.
