Since Qatar won the honour of hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 in December 2010, the nation has spent over a decade in preparation, making progress in transforming itself into an international sporting nation and a travel destination for the expected visitors.

The ILoveQatar.net (ILQ) team has listed the top 10 World Cup facts to see Qatar in 2022!

1. All the stadiums are within 1-hour travel

Qatar is a small country, so unlike the previous hosts for the World Cup, which had fans travelling hours and even days to reach the venue, all stadiums that will host the matches are easily accessible, within an hour's drive from central Doha and can be reached through public transportation.

    2. Qatar's stadiums to provide state-of-the-art technology

    Qatar has spared no expense with its aim to provide state-of-the-art facilities. All stadiums have innovative cooling systems to ensure the comfort of match goers and players. Smart Wifi and charging stations will be available at the venues. The stadiums also have retractable roofs to anticipate any kind of weather.

      3. Qatar 2022 will be carbon-neutral & built for sustainability

      The eight stadiums hosting the World Cup matches are designed to consume up to 40% less energy with insulation, efficient cooling, and ventilation systems, making it the first carbon-neutral FIFA World Cup™ in history. In addition, the stadiums are close to metro stations and electric buses will be provided to match goers.

      The Education City Stadium and Lusail Stadium have achieved a 5-star design and build rating from the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS).

        4. Qatar's stadiums are accessible to persons with disabilities

        To ensure that the FIFA World Cup 2022 is inclusive for people with disabilities, technologies have been implemented to aid those in need.

        These include digital content for the visually impaired, sensory viewing rooms in the stadiums, and special tickets for those with disabilities.

        5. Culturally designed stadiums

        Aside from the state-of-the-art technologies, the stadiums here have been built and designed to represent the rich history and culture of Qatar and the Middle East.

        Some examples are the Al Bayt Stadium, designed to resemble the traditional nomadic tents used in Qatar and the Gulf region, and the Al Thumama Stadium, designed to look like the gahfiya – a traditional woven cap worn by men and boys across the Middle East.

            Qatar being a Middle Eastern country, experiences extreme weather, especially during summer. This is why the World Cup has been scheduled for November-December 2022 to take advantage of the colder weather.

            Temperatures are expected to range between 18°C to 24°C during the tournament, the ideal climate for fans and players to enjoy.
