[UPDATED] How to access Central Doha from 1 November to 19 December

As confirmed by the Government Communications Office on 5 October 2022, the Corniche will be closed for vehicles on 1 November until 19 December and will only be allocated for pedestrians during this time.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) announced in a tweet other means of transportation to reach Central Doha. Below are the different modes of transportation, pick-up/drop-off zones, parking areas, and more:

Taxi and Rideshare

Pick-up and drop-off zones in the following areas:

  • Ashghal Tower
  • Al Bidda Park
  • Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex
  • Souq Waqif
  • Museum of Islamic Art Park
  • Old Doha Port

The Corniche spans Doha’s iconic 6km waterfront from Sheraton Hotel Park to MIA Park and is accessible from all drop-off/ pick-up areas. The FIFA Fan Festival™ is a minimum of a 15-minute walk to the QSC Taxi, Uber, Careem drop off/ pick up.

Doha Metro services will run for longer from 11 November to 20 December to support the FIFA World Cup™, and will be free to passengers who have a Hayya Card.

The FIFA Fan Festival™'s location at Al Bidda Park is directly serviced by the Red and Green lines. Corniche Metro Station (Red line) is the closest metro station to arrive at the FIFA Fan Festival™. When exiting the FIFA Fan Festival™, fans will be directed north to the West Bay Qatar Energy Metro Station (Red line), or south to Al Bidda Metro Station (Red and Green lines).

NOTE: From 11 November, the Corniche Station will operate exclusively as an exit station.

Tournament-time operating hours:

  • Saturday to Thursday: 6 am - 3 am
  • Friday: 9 am - 3 am

Buses

As per the SC, a Free Shuttle loop around Central Doha will be available to facilitate easy access to activations. Routes will be available on the Hayya to Qatar 2022 app or the Mowasalat website.

The Corniche, B-ring, and C-ring shuttle buses will operate from Tuesday, 1 November starting from 9 am to 3 am, with one bus every 15 minutes. You may find your stop using the Hayya to Qatar 2022 app.

Stadium Express Bus

This free service will shuttle fans between stadiums and the FIFA Fan Festival™. Buses start running 4 hours before match kick-off and end 1.5 hours after the final whistle. Operations will be reduced 1 hour before kick-off so set off early.

When returning to the event location, please bear in mind that it is a minimum of a 20-minute walk to the FIFA Fan Festival™ from the drop-off location.

Another shuttle bus service runs a loop from the Cruise Ship Hotels at Doha Port to Souq Waqif Bus Hub - South, available from 11 November to 20 December 2022. This is a 24-hour service, running every 30 minutes.

Park & Ride

Parking spaces in Central Doha will be limited, according to the SC. It is highly recommended to use Park & Ride from various locations around Doha to access Corniche.

Additionally, many on-street parking bays in West Bay, Al Bidda, and inner A-Ring Road areas will be suspended. Drivers are encouraged to only park in designated areas to avoid fines, which will be given to any cars parked illegally, or blocking footpaths and bus stops.

A drop-off/pick-up area for private cars is provided at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque (across Al Istiqlal Street). From here, it is a 15-minute walk to the FIFA Fan Festival™ or a 20-minute walk to the Corniche.

General Parking

Additional general parking spaces have been added to access Central Doha:

  • Sheraton Park
  • Ashghal Towers
  • Qatar Post parking lot
  • Al Bidda (South)

Accessible Parking

Four accessible car parks for people with disabilities are available in central Doha:

  • Hotel Park
  • Post Office
  • Al Bidda Park Car Park 5
  • Doha Port

Please note that Hotel Park is a private parking area. The other three are free of charge, provided that the driver has applied for and been granted a parking VAPP.

The following parking areas will be used for tournament operations and cannot be accessed by fans from 1 November to 19 December:

  • Souq Waqif West and North
  • Al Shoyoukh Mosque
  • Al Bidda 5 (across Al Rayyan Street)
  • Al Bidda 4 & 5 (across Al Corniche Street)
  • Al Bidda 1 & 2 (across Al Istiqlal Street)

For the safety of passengers and other road users, drop-off /pick-up on roads around the FIFA Fan Festival is not permitted, and fines will be issued to offending drivers.

License Plate management system

Vehicles with general or black private transport plates are prohibited from driving in central Doha from 12 PM to 2 AM from 1 November to 19 December.

Please consult the advice provided by the Ministry of Interior for the impacted roads and prohibited vehicles.

Marine vessel owners

Boat owners should park their vehicles at the Umm Ghuwailina park and ride site, and take the free shuttle bus service.

Getting to Banana Island

Shuttle bus services are available from:

  • Hamad International Airport
  • Umm Ghuwailina

    These services will transport guests to Souq Waqif North car park, from where they will be transferred to the Banana Island terminal.

    Prohibited modes of transport

    Motorbikes, bicycles, and scooters will be prohibited in the Corniche, pedestrianized areas, and public parks from 1 November to 19 December.
