As per a report by The Peninsula, speaking to Qatar Television on 29 December 2021, the Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, said that the Ministry of Transport (MOT) will test water taxi in 2022. This is to determine its efficiency to operate in the coastal areas of Qatar such as Al Matar, Lusail and Dafna.

H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti said that water taxi aims at proving alternative mode of transportation like Doha Metro and buses in Qatar. He also added that Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) was tested, which is a type of bus that carries the specifications of a tram or a train, and the experiment was successful.

According to the report, His Excellency had mentioned that this type of bus will be used during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

The Minister said “FIFA Arab Cup Qatar was an important experiment to test the efficiency of the transport system, as 200 electric-powered buses were used during the tournament”. As per the report, he also mentioned that 800 electric buses will arrive in Qatar in preparation for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

His Excellency mentioned "The year 2021 witnessed an excellent experience in the transport sector, both on the Rail and Karwa buses, where more than 3 million passengers were transported, in addition to that we tested more than 4000 buses. We launched the strategic year for electric vehicles and trucks, and soon we will see them on the ground, and the Arab Cup experience was important to us, as we used more than 200 electric buses."

"The ministry's mission is to plan the transport network, which includes paths for bicycles, pedestrians and all those who use the roads, stressing that all transport projects implemented by Ashghal enjoy the application of the best international standards in security, safety and performance. The civil aviation system in Qatar has witnessed a remarkable development, and new aircraft lanes will be developed to accommodate heavy air traffic during the 2022 World Cup, in addition to the fact that meteorology is equipped with modern systems, which contributes to the high accuracy of weather forecasts", he said.
