The Qatar Football Federation (QFA) participated in a AFC general assembly with a delegation headed by HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani, President of the QFA, and a delegation from the Supreme Committee for delivery and Legacy (SC) headed by its Secretary-General HE Hassan Al Thawadi.

Vice President of Qatar Football Association (QFA) Saud Al Mohannadi has been elected a member of International Association of Football Federations (FIFA) council for the session 2019-2023 on the sideline of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress in the Malaysian Capital Kuala Lumpur.

He received 37 of the 46 votes.

Sheikh Salman has been elected by acclamation for the position he has held since 2013, after the withdrawal of his rivals to the presidency, AFC Vice President Saud Al Muhannadi, and Chairman of the General Authority for Sport in the UAE Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi.

HE new FIFA Council Member dedicated his victory to Qatar's wise Leadership and to everyone that has helped and supported him, particularly HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani President of Qatar Football Association (QFA) all of the QFA affiliates. Al Mohannadi stressed that his victory was the result of teamwork. Saud Al Mohannadi concluded his remarks by vowing that he will do his utmost to raise the name of Qatar and to honor the continent of Asia. Meanwhile, HE Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary-General of SC congratulated all the Qatari people on this new achievement, which is added to the series of Qatari and international successes.

"This victory reflects the outstanding position of the State of Qatar, the QFA, and the high level of competence exhibited by Saud Al Mohannadi in his active role in the Asian Football Federation, pointing that Al Mohannadi's victory was well deserved.

The AFC Congress also approved Qatar's proposal to amend a provision in the Statute that prevented candidacy for two posts and thus Al Mohannadi also retained, by acclamation, his position as AFC Vice-Chair for West Asia
