According to Qatar News Agency, the government of the State of Qatar and the government of Japan held their second strategic dialogue session at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday, 31 January 2023.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani chaired the Qatari side in the session, and H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Hayashi Yoshimasa headed the Japanese side.
During the session, the two parties agreed to exchange notes on exempting Qatari citizens from entry visas by introducing the pre-registration system for Qatari travellers to Japan.
They also discussed expanding joint investments in the energy field, enhancing cultural relations, cooperation, and exchanging experiences in cybersecurity, enhancing cooperation in the defence field, exchanging expertise in the technological field, promoting private investments, and exchanging businessperson visits in the two countries.
They expressed their concern about the consequences of the recent Israeli violations in the Palestinian territories, their agreement to support the resolutions of international legitimacy on the Palestinian issue, the need to end the Russian-Ukrainian crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means, and the importance of continuing humanitarian support to Afghanistan.
During the session, H.E. the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed Qatar's thanks to Japan for its efforts in hosting the second strategic dialogue, stressing the importance of strategic dialogues and their effective role in strengthening relations between the two countries.
For his part, H.E. the Japanese Foreign Minister, congratulated the State of Qatar for its success in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, thanking the popular and official welcome and the facilities provided to the Japanese fans.
His Excellency praised the distinguished relations between Qatar and Japan, expressing his country's aspiration to strengthen them, especially in the energy and trade fields. He also noted Qatar's reliability and importance as an energy source to Japan and global markets.
