Qatar will be moved to England's amber list effective from 0400 BST on Sunday 8 August 2021. This means that travellers from Qatar arriving in England after this date will no longer be required to complete 10 days hotel quarantine. However, unless travellers have been vaccinated in the UK, the US or the European Union, they will still be required to isolate for 10 days at a private address, according to the British Embassy in Qatar.

In England, travellers can opt-in to the test to release scheme and may be able to end their isolation early subject to a negative day 5 covid-19 test. Travellers need to book their covid-19 tests before entering the UK to be taken after arrival.

Before travelling to England

Take a COVID-19 test

Travellers must have proof of a negative coronavirus (COVID-19) test to travel to England. They must take the test in the three days before they arrive in the UK. Your test result must be in the form of a printed document or an email or text message you can show on your phone - make sure your device is charged.

  • Test results must be in either English, French or Spanish. Translations will not be accepted. Travellers must provide the original test result notification. It must include the following information:
    • name, which should match the name on your travel documents
    • date of birth or age
    • result of the test
    • date the test sample was collected or received by the test provider
    • name of the test provider and their contact details
    • confirmation of the device used for the test, or that the test was a PCR test

Children aged 10 and under do not need to take a test. (GOV.UK)

Book and pay for COVID-19 tests before arrival in England

Travellers must book their tests before they travel and leave enough time for them to be delivered to their address in England. These tests will be taken on day 2 and day 8 of r arrival in the UK. Typically you’ll have to wait 24 to 36 hours to get your test results. Check with providers what their turnaround time is before booking tests.

Travellers may be able to end quarantine early if they pay for a private COVID-19 test through the Test to Release scheme. Under this scheme. they can choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test on day 5. If the result is negative (and the result of your day 2 test result was negative or inconclusive) travellers can end their quarantine. The Test to Release test cannot be taken until travellers have been in England for 5 full days. The scheme is voluntary and applies to those quarantining in England only.

If travellers do not want to opt into the Test to Release scheme, they will need to home quarantine for 10 days. They cannot take part in the scheme if they have been in or through a country or territory on the red list in the 10 days before they arrive in England.

Note: If travellers choose Test to Release, they must still book and take their two compulsory travel tests (day 2 and day 8). They can book Test to Release at the same time as their compulsory tests. (GOV.UK)

Complete a passenger location form

Travellers must complete a passenger locator form online before they arrive in the UK, even if you are just transiting through the UK. It’s free to submit the form. Travellers can submit the form any time in the 48 hours before they arrive in the UK and will need to show the form when they check in to travel or board their plane to the UK. (GOV.UK)

      On arrival in England

On arrival in England, travellers must quarantine at home or in the place they are staying for 10 days, in addition to taking a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8.

If you’re travelling to Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland
