Ever wondered how to spend the perfect weekend in Qatar? Whatever that dream weekend looks like we’re sure transportation is an integral part of it – how to get to where you need to be in the most efficient way possible. We don’t know about you reader, but getting from point A to B is usually the most tedious part of any trip – particularly when it is a weekend! So, what’s the solution, you may ask? Oh, dear reader, let us introduce you to public transport in Qatar through Sila.

What is Sila?

Sila is the brand that brings together the State of Qatar’s public transport modes into an integrated network. Currently, it includes the metro, bus, tram and taxi.

Expand your horizons at Qatar’s cultural hubs

So, let’s say you’re an art buff/culture connoisseur/history enthusiast (you get the picture) and your idea of a perfect weekend is visiting a couple of exhibitions and museums for a day. How would you go about doing that without worrying about the transport aspect i.e., finding parking space or spending a chunk of money on private vehicle providers? Let’s plan your weekend with Sila!

Begin your journey from any metro line heading towards Education City, you can find that using the Sila app. Once in Education City, the Sila app will tell you to hop on the tram and make your way to the closest stop to either Mathaf (The Arab Museum of Modern Art) or the Seero Fi Al-Ardh Carousel or both! Maybe if you’re still itching for another cultural adventure, you can use Sila to jump on the Education City tram bound for the metro station where you’ll take the Metro Green line to get to Msherieb.

Once in Msherieb, you may take the Smart City’s tram to Bin Jelmood House, a museum that pays tribute to formerly enslaved people in both Qatar and the world and acknowledges their role in the development of human civilisations. No matter where you are going, Sila brings together different public transport modes (in this case the Doha metro and the trams) to provide you with the smartest and most convenient travel experience.

Explore exhilarating sports adventures

Fret not, if arts and culture isn’t your cup of tea, there’s something for everyone in Sila’s Weekend Wonderland. Many people in Qatar are interested in fitness and prefer to be as active as possible during their weekend, if that’s the case then Sila can take you there! The Doha metro red line can be used to reach the Corniche for a walk, the walk can then evolve into a nice run at Katara Hills also via the red line. If you’re still pumping with adrenaline, then use Sila to jump on the metro gold line and make your way to Sport City for a swimming class!

Relax at trendy cafes & restaurants

Getting hungry after all that exercise? Qatar foodies assemble and use Sila to take a ride on the metro red line to Legtaifiya where you’ll transfer to the Lusail tram and head towards Marina Promenade. Once at the Promenade station you can make your way on foot to the Lusail Marina Food Arena – yum! What’s that you ask, what about dessert? Say less. Jump back on the Lusail Tram and either get off at Legtaifiya then use the bus – which is another transport mode under Sila – or stay on until the West Bay stop, either way you’ll have an endless pool of sugary options to pursue at the Pearl or in downtown West Bay. We’ll let you get creative with this one.

Point is, there is something for everyone! Whether you’re a busy mum of three, a shopaholic, or an animal welfare volunteer, Sila can help you plan your journey to get to where you need to be in the most efficient and sustainable way possible.
