Garangao is traditionally celebrated on the 14th night of Ramadan where children get dressed up in traditional outfits, visit homes in their neighborhood and collect goodies like sweets and nuts.
Venues all around town are hosting different kinds of activities to celebrate the Garangao festival in what promises to be a night of song, colourful traditional clothing and, of course, candy and nut. Loyola International School is going to arrange its annual Iftar Drive 2019 for the Holy month of Ramadan. The purpose of running the Iftar Drive is to spread awareness among commuters to driving safe, by not rushing to reach their home to break the fast. Iftar will be distributed to those who are stuck at the traffic signals and are not able to reach their homes to break their fast with their love ones. Ramadan Around the World is a chance for you to engage with the local community and participate in the holy month’s activities and introduce cultures. Different communities get to gather to offer different activities that target families and specifically kids, despite their nationalities and backgrounds.
Festival’s objective is to engage the public and to raise awareness of the young generation about the importance of understanding Islamic cultures around the world. The festival offers Ramadan tailored programs, food from around the world, arts, crafts, and themed treasure hunt for children with daily prizes.
Firing of the Ramadan cannon is a traditional practice in Qatar and other parts of the Islamic world that evokes memories of the past among the older generation. If you want to experience the beautiful vibes of Ramadan canon, head over to the Katara (in the south area) and witness a tradition being revived.
