Garangao is traditionally celebrated on the 14th night of Ramadan where children get dressed up in traditional outfits, visit homes in their neighborhood and collect goodies like sweets and nuts. Garangao is referred to by different names in each region, according to local residents: While it is Garangao or Garangaou in Qatar, it is Gargee’aan in Kuwait, Al-Majeena Karkiaan in Iraq, and Garangashoch, At-Tablah or Qarnakosh in Oman.
Venues all around town are hosting different kinds of activities to celebrate the Garangao festival in what promises to be a night of song, colourful traditional clothing and, of course, candy and nut. Consistent with the heritage here in Qatar, The Cultural Village Foundation Katara is to celebrate the festival of Garango, a celebration inspired by our Qatari and Arabian Gulf traditions and customs, taking place on 19 May. For this occasion, Katara will organise a group of activities and events to entertain the kids and adults throughout the night, to remember the old days of our fathers and grandfathers, and also to discover our Qatari background and customs.
