Wild Khaleeji – is a concept that was initiated earlier this year when Mohamed Al-Attar – a Kuwaiti parkour athlete who is ranked in the list of top 5 free-runners in the world – felt the need of encouraging parkour as a sport for Khaleejis (GCC Nationals). The concept of Wild Khaleeji is to promote a sport that expands the player’s horizon to explore a world without obstacles. Free-running is often defined as the fine-line between expression of emotions and art through sports that not only helps in focus, but also is a fun way to keep oneself active and healthy.

Zeena Abu-Issa, Senior Events & Sponsorship Manager at Vodafone Qatar, said: “We’re very happy to collaborate with The Youth Company and Aspire Zone to host this top sports event geared entirely for the youth, one of our most important segments at Vodafone. Our sponsorship of Wild Khaleeji strongly underlines our commitment to support young talent, not only with products and services that are tailor-made to their needs such as Vodafone Falla but also through platforms that develop and nurture their interests to enhance their lifestyle in Qatar. Wild Khaleeji will be a great event for friends and families to get together and enjoy a global sports stunt show unlike any other.”

Mr. Abdullah Al Khater, Events Manager at Aspire Zone Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be hosting this event, and we applaud the Youth Company for organizing such an amazing activity. Encouraging youth to be active has always been one of our main goals at Aspire Zone Foundation, and we have continually been supportive of events and activities that help them achieve this, whether on our premises or around Qatar. We are always keen to be a destination for everyone, including professional athletes, sport enthusiasts and members of the family.”

Wild Khaleeji Programme involves a MENA online submission campaign, a road-trip around GCC to unite parkour athletes, and a regional tournament finals in Qatar. An online qualification campaign that was promoted on social media reached the remotest living areas of MENA Region. A total of Seventy Eight (78) submissions were received through Wild Khaleeji website starting from 4th August 2015 till 10th September 2015. These submissions represented free-runners from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, KSA, Qatar and UAE. Among which, eighteen (18) are selected to compete against each other to win the title of “Wild Khaleeji 2015”.

Speaking to the press, Mohamed Al Attar, Regional Director of Youth & Sports Empowerment at The Youth Company Arabia mentioned, “An event of this nature is something that all Arab free runners and parkour fans have waited years for. I am extremely proud to be part of this, proud of all those who participated and I am really looking forward to seeing what they will do in the finals! I am also very thankful to Aspire Zone, Vodafone Qatar and the people of Doha for graciously supporting the art of free running.”

Followed by the submissions, a group of athletes were sent on a road trip to discover and explore the communities of free runners around the GCC. Led by Mohamed Al Attar – the roadtrip lasted for ten days that involved meet & greet and workshops with artists from Dubai, Doha, Kuwait, Manama and Jeddah.

Finals of Wild Khaleeji are planned to be hosted at Aspire Park on 20th - 21st November 2015 with a set of obstacles covering a space of 1,600 square meters. The first day of the event is for public to enjoy live rehearsals and acquire skills of the sport that are offered through workshops followed by the finals of tournament on 21st November 2015. For fanatics of parkour, there will be freestyle battles at the Fanzone area and live performances to entertain the crowd. Powered by Vodafone Qatar, a range of exciting offers from Vodafone Falla Package will be available for youth who are aspiring to be sports professionals.

The finals event on both days will start at 2PM and will end at 8PM with a mix of competitions, performances and artists showcases. More information can be acquired from Wild Khaleeji’s official webpage – www.wildkhaleeji.com.
