United Development Company spells out program for National Sports Day

United Development Company (UDC), one of the largest leading public shareholding companies in the State of Qatar and the master developer of The Pearl-Qatar, is set to host a full day of sporting and fun activities for National Sport Day 2014 for its employees, residents and visitors at the Pearl Qatar on 11th February.

UDC’s support to the National Sports Day is aligned with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program’s focus on promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.

Several activities on the National Sport Day have been lined-up at the Island, from games for individuals and groups to entertainment, with a program full of fun for kids and adults alike.

Sports included football, beach volleyball, tug-of-war, touch rugby, cricket, and “mini Olympics” all sports celebrating the diverse nature of the UDC workforce.

The National Sport day is celebrated every second Tuesday of February and across the country, ministries, government departments, public and private sector organizations and sports clubs will be organizing sporting activities for all on February 11, 2014. The event aims to create awareness about sports and its health benefits.

Members of UDC Executive Leadership team and more than 300 UDC employees and their families from 47 different nationalities, will join together to enjoy the diverse array of activities that UDC has lined up for the day in coordination with the Organizing Committee of Associated Activities for Qatar National Sports Day 2014.

The day showcased the sporting events, reflecting the cultural diversity characterized The Pearl - Qatar, home to more than 10,000 people belonging to more than 55 nationalities. Other companies and organizations also took advantage of the upscale location and healthy outdoor environment at The Pearl-Qatar and held their National Sports Day events on the Island.

Meanwhile, all employees of UDC and its subsidiaries will take part in a March walk "Walk-A-Thon” on February 11th, 2014 at ​​Porto Arabia in The Pearl-Qatar, which will be organized- for the second consecutive year. High social figures, in addition to a number of media representatives, government and private sectors, citizens and residents will join the "Walk-A-Thon”.

On this occasion, Mr. Saeed Al-Sulaiti, Director of The Pearl-Qatar Operations said: “The National Sports Day is a national initiative and a wonderful opportunity to promote integrating healthy living and the benefits of physical activity into our everyday lives.”

Al-Sulaiti added, “At UDC we encourage our employees to take advantage of the outdoor lifestyle in Qatar and make every effort to live a healthy life as our flagship project; The Pearl-Qatar exemplifies this. We are honored to be a part of National Sports Day and support it by offering our employees an opportunity to enjoy the day.”

Highlights of the 2014 event promises to be team tournaments for popular sports such as football, mini-competitions for children, and a Fun Run. Also on the program are sports entertainers performing live shows.
