Qatar National Sport Day has been held annually here since 2012 and takes place every second Tuesday of February. The aim of this day is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and staying fit through exercise and sports.
This year, the National Sport Day is taking place on 9 February, however, the celebrations are a little different than usual. Because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Qatar, this year's events will be limited and it's mandatory to follow all the safety and precautionary measures set by the Ministry of Public Health, to limit the spread of the virus.
Here are some of the restrictions that were recently announced:
Keeping these restrictions in mind, we have put together a list of activities you can do to keep yourself and others safe while also enjoying the national holiday and keeping fit.
Note: Make sure to follow social distancing and wear a face mask all times, when outdoors, except during the sporting activity itself. Refer to the above link for all the guidelines for National Sport Day this year.

This year, Qatar Foundation will bring National Sport Day to where you are. They are offering virtual activities and health and fitness talks that are free of charge and open to the public.
This year, for National Sport Day, Paris Saint-Germain Academy is going virtual. Take part in their LIVE STREAM Series via Facebook and Instagram on National Sports Day where fun interactive Fitness, Football and Handball sessions await you! Be sure to prepare your questions for their guest Didier Domi, retired Paris Saint-Germain player, and now PSG Academy Technical advisor as he answers Q&A and discusses how he became a pro.
In celebration and recognition of National Sport Day, the Drive-In Cinema at Lusail City in partnership with the Qatar National Tourism Council is all set to feature The Karate Kid on 12 February at 10 pm and Pelé: Birth of a Legend on 13 February at 6.30 pm. Are you excited for the screenings?
FBQ Museum's Qatar National Sport Day 2021 activities include a tour of the sports section that will feature paintings, vintage cars, Formula 1 related objects and sports celebrities' equipment and clothes. Be sure to email them for booking your slot before going.

With the current restrictions are in place, if you are not in the mood to go out, take the alternate route and exercise at home to stay fit. It is a given that running helps you to stay fit. There are some beautiful parks in Qatar with great running and jogging tracks that you can make use of!
Swimming is a great way to destress while also toning your muscles. Qatar offers great places to do a few laps, while also offering the perfect outdoor weather to do so.
Note: Indoor swimming is not allowed due to the current restrictions so make sure to call the respective places that offer outdoor swimming (with 30% capacity) before going.
Sometimes, doing less is more. Find inner peace and feel good about yourself with yoga and meditation. In Qatar, this activity is gaining popularity. Below are a few places that offer yoga classes in Qatar; please be sure to find out beforehand about the timings and precautionary measures in place before going.
Rollerblading is a fun new activity that is taking over Qatar. Have you done this uber-cool activity before? If not, click the above video for some inspiration! When the situation is back to normal, you can try some of the other cool sports in Qatar too.
Hit the gym for a great workout or renew your gm membership, if you have been putting it off lately. Please note that health clubs and physical training clubs are only allowed to work with 30% capacity as per the new restrictions.
