Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland defeated Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the 2020 Qatar Exxonmobil Open tennis tournament.
Wawrinka's best result in Doha came in 2008 when the Swiss lost in the championship match against Andy Murray in three sets.
The Swiss is chasing his first ATP Tour title since lifting the Banque Eric Sturdza Geneva Open trophy in 2017.
Wawrinka, the top seed, seeks to capture the tournament's trophy especially in the absence of the big three Nadal, Djokovic and Federer.
Wawrinka will take on Corentin Moutet on France later tonight in the semifinals of 2020 Qatar Exxonmobil Open.
