H.E Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Sabah has been elected today as the new President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for a new term of 4 years, during the 42nd General Assembly held in the Thai capital, Bangkok. H.E Sheikh Talal beat Kuwaiti Husain Al-Musallam, the organisation's director general and President of World Aquatics, at the OCA General Assembly in Bangkok by 24 votes to 20.

H.E Sheikh Talal, 58, held several positions previously, most notably the presidency of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee and the Football Association before he moved away from the sports scene in recent years due to health conditions.

H.E Sheikh Talal replaces his older brother Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who led the OCA for more than three decades, as he held the position since July 1991.

Additionally, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Second Vice President, His Excellency Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, has been re-elected as the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Vice President for West Asia during the 42nd OCA General Assembly in Bangkok, Thailand.

H.E Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari will now serve the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Asia for a further four-year term.

The meeting has seen Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad Al-Sabah elected as the OCA President, Mr. Timothy Fok as the OCA Vice President for East Asia, Mr. Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, as the OCA Vice President for South East Asia, Mr Timur Kulibayev as the OCA Vice President for Central Asia and Lt. Genl. Syed Arif Hasan as the OCA Vice President for South Asia.
