The Ministry of Culture and Sports urged all entities participating in the Qatar Sports Day to commit to the standards and regulations issued by the Emiri Decision No. 80 of 2011, for the plans being made for the event, to ensure achieving the desired goals especially those related to raising awareness on the importance of playing sports for all ages during the Sports Day which will take place on Feb. 12.
The ministry said the events must focus on physical, motor and awareness activities, avoid performances and focus on awareness activities that instill exercising as a daily healthy behaviour. It also said the events must promote awareness among participants of the importance of sport and its role in the lives of individuals and communities and that the proposed sporting events are suited to the ages and health conditions of the participants, in terms of activities and duration, in order to avoid physical stress and injury.
In its statement, the ministry also called for avoiding constructing temporary artificial sports tents or buildings for the Sports Day, taking into account the requirements of security and safety during the organization of the events, this includes exploiting sports facilities, parks and public places. The entities must commit to offering healthy food, avoid fast food and refrain for distributing free gifts and food to the public.
The statement recommended moving away from organizing performances than organizing sports events and stressed that all entities should provide the Sports Day committee with its programs and plans related to the activities planned for the Sports Day and the estimated number of participants, no later than Jan. 20. This is required so the committee may review it and approve it, all to be done by an application created for Sports Day. The filled forms should be sent to nsdmcs.gov.qa.
In order to continue to achieve goals of Sports Day, the ministry called for avoiding long hours of exercise on Sports Day, which may cause physical stress and muscle injuries in some participants. The ministry also called on refraining to hold activities in one place to avoid traffic congestion and disrupt in the vicinity for most of the time.
