Former world No.1 Roger Federer arrived Saturday in Doha to participate in the 2021 Qatar ExxonMobil Open, which will be held from Match 8 to 13 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
The 39-year-old is a three-time champion in Doha.
"Here we are, about to take off to fly to Doha. It's been a year since my last event," Federer, said ahead of traveling to Doha.
"I can tell I'm very excited it's been a long and hard road. I know I'm not at the finish line yet but it's good, I feel I'm in a good place, I've been practicing very well and I just feel really pumped up."
After nearly 9 years, Federer returns to participate in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open after reaching the semi-finals in 2012 but withdrew before facing Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga due to a back injury.
The Swiss player said in a previous statement that he would return to the tennis courts through the Qatar ExxonMobil Open tennis tournament. The World No.5 had not played the 2020 Australian Open due to injuries.
