The tenth football tournament conducted by QIFF for the Western Union City Exchange Trophy will start today at Doha Stadium. SKIYA Thiruvananthapuram will play against KPAQ Kozhikode in the inaugural match at 7pm while KMCC Kozhikode will face YAS Trissur in the second match.

The official inauguration ceremony will be held on October 21. Representatives of Indian embassy, Qatar Football Association, Qatar Ministry of Interior and Indian Cultural Centre will attend. A march past of all the teams participating in the tournament and cultural programmes are the main attractions of the inauguration ceremony. Twelve powerful teams representing various districts from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram will take part in the tournament.
Unlike previous years, well-trained and fully prepared teams are participating in this year’s tournament, the successful tenth episode of the first ever expatriate football tournament in the country.

All matches from the qualifying round to semifinals will be played at Doha Stadium every Thursday and Friday evenings starting today. The venue of the final match on December 9 is Al Arabi Stadium. The champion and runner-up teams in the final match will be awarded cash prizes of QR20,000 and QR12,000 respectively in addition to trophies while the third and fourth place winners will be awarded cash prizes of QR2,500 each.
The final shall be a day of celebration, joy and entertainment for the Indian community in Qatar, as per the programmes scheduled by QIFF authorities. An extensive welcome committee including dignitaries of Indian community in Qatar has been formed. A joint meeting of all the reception committee members and sponsors was held last Monday at the Marriott Hotel.

Western Union City Exchange is the tournament’s title sponsor. Al Anees Trading, Imalco Trading, Total Lubricants, Quality International, Jaida Autoparts, Bradma, Partsland, Ali International and Bosch are the golden sponsors.
From the humble beginning in 2007 at the M E S Indian School ground under the then Qatar Kerala Inter District Football Committee, the tournament has grown up through the past nine years to a sports festival of the Indian expat community. The official apex body for football game in the country, Qatar Football Association is giving seamless support for the QIFF tournament. The encouragement and support of various institutions and government departments have assisted a lot in the success of hitherto football tournaments that have marked QIFF as the football representation of Indian Expatriates in Qatar.

In the final match days many sports figures of India will be the guests of the tournament. Representing QFA, Ali Hamoud Al Naimi, Head of Players and Competitions Department, Jamale Darjani Sponsorship and TV Rights and Ali Salat Head of Media were also present at the conference. (Source)
