The Qatar Athletics Federation announced on 26 April 2023 that Qatar's athletic star Mutaz Barshim has won the gold medal in the high jump competition at the West Asian Athletics Championships 2023. Mutaz Barshim won the category with a record of 2.20m.

Qatar achieved another gold medal on the first day of the championship in the category of women's triple jump, won by Bashair Obaid with a record height of 11.62m.

A silver medal was also won for Qatar by Mabrouk Saleh in the 10,000-meter race for men.

The championship is taking place from 26 to 29 April 2023 at the Qatar Sports Club.
