Qatar Tribune reported that Qatar will host the upcoming edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup, the Executive Office of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation has confirmed.
The biennial tournament will be held in December and January, with four teams — Kuwait, Oman, Iraq and Yemen — having confirmed participation, besides Qatar.
The confirmation came at a meeting of the Executive Office of the federation in Doha under the chairmanship of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al Thani, President of Qatar and Gulf football associations.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Executive Committee Mohammed Khalil (Kuwait), Dr Jassim al Shukaily (Oman), Dr Hamid al Shaibani (Yemen) and Tariq Ahmed (Iraq).
Following the meeting, Jassem al Rumaihi, Secretary-General of the federation, said the meeting reviewed its work in the past period and the proposed budget, which will be adopted at its general assembly meeting on May 15 in Doha.
According to the rules and regulations of the federation, since several teams have given their consent, the tournament can be held in Qatar on time, he said.
The agreement to host the tournament was signed between the Gulf and Qatari federations.
The Qatar Football Association will be responsible for the formation of the championship committees, with the exception of the competitions, discipline and appeals committees set up by the federation.
The secretary-general of the Gulf Cup federation said its President officially invited the eight-member federations on time, a year before the start of the tournament, and received consent from five federations.
