Qatar qualifies for 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup Finals

Qatar football team qualified for the finals of the 2022 Asian Nations Cup under 23 years, to be held next year in Uzbekistan, after topping the first group of qualifiers hosted by Doha over seven days, following a draw with its Syrian counterpart (1-1) in the match that took place between them today, 31 October 2021, at Khalifa International Stadium in the third and final round.

Mohammed Waad scored for Qatar from a penalty kick in the 44th minute, and Ali Al Bashmani scored for Syria in the 16th minute.

The first-place team in each group will qualify for the finals, along with the four best second-placed teams in the 11 groups, to join the host Uzbekistan team.

Qatar raised its score to 7 points at the top of the general standings of the group and secured the direct qualifying card to the finals of the Asian Championship, while Syria raised its score to 5 points in second place.

In a second match within the same group, Yemen achieved a great victory over Sri Lanka by three clean goals, to raise its score to 4 points in third place, while Sri Lanka was at the bottom of the group without a balance of points.

The qualifiers will witness the participation of 39 teams competing for 15 cards available in the finals, in order to join hosts Uzbekistan in 2022.
