In an exciting face off between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Qatar has emerged the winner beating Saudi Arabia 2 - 0 to decide who will be no. 1 in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup’s Group E. This extremely important match will add a new element to the political stalemate between the two countries who broken off political relations on 5 June 2017.

So far in the football tournament, both Qatar and Saudi have won their matches, until today when Almoez Ali, Qatar’s 22-year-old Duhail striker, scored the two winning goals putting a full stop to Saudi Arabia’s winning streak. Almoez has so far scored seven goals in three matches and is the only football player in the AFC Asian Cup who has scored as many goals. The first goal was scored by Almoez in the 45th minute of the first half and the second goal was scored by him in the 80th minute of the game 10 minutes before the match ended. He was assisted by Abdel Aziz Hatim in scoring these goals.

Qatar is now on top of Group E and will play against Iraq on 22 January in the Round of 16, while Saudi Arabia will play against Japan.
