Doha diamond league 171 champions

Al Sharq newspaper reported on 10 May 2022, the participation of 171 male and female champions at the Ooredoo Doha 2022 meeting.

The first round of the Diamond League will commence at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar Sports Club on Friday, 13 May 2022. The participants will be competing in 13 races in an aim to break records.

The 171 champions participating include Qatari Olympic champion Mutaz Issa Barshim and who he shared the gold medal with at Olympic Games in Japan; Italian champion, Gianmarco Tampere. Along with them will be 4 times Olympic bronze medal winner for the 100-meter relay; Canadian, Jerome Blake. World champion in 1500 meter race and record holder for previous Doha Diamond Round; Timothy Cheriot from Kenya will also be participating. Moroccan gold medalist, Soufiane Bakkali who witnessed victory in the year 2020 in Tokyo will also be seen participating in this champion-filled competition.

The 400-meter hurdles will see a tough challenge at the Doha meeting as world champions and Olympic medalists such as; Ray Benjamin from America, a silver medalist and Alison Dos Santos from Brazil, a bronze medalist. The race will also see Qatari star Abdul Rahman Samba who is looking to showcase his athletic excellence ahead of the World Cup in America. The pole vault race will see champions such Mundo Duplantes from Sweden who was a gold medal winner in Tokyo and Chris Nielsen from America who is a silver medalist.

As per the article, the races are to witness a tough competition with rising champions such as Christine Mboma from Namibia, a silver holder from the Tokyo Olympics, and Gabriel Thomas who is a bronze medalist. Other expected champions include Nigerian runner Toby Amosan and Kendra Harrison from America.

The shot put competition is expected to have silver medalist Raven Saunders from America and bronze medalist Jessica Schilder, reigning from the Netherlands.

As per Issa Abdullah Al-Harami, director of the Doha Diamond Round, the competition this year is to be unlike its previous
predecessors as the mother of games that starts in Doha will be an ongoing preparation for the World Championships scheduled in the United States of America next July.

As per the Al Sharq article, the champions are expected to be in Qatar from Tuesday, May 10, 2022. All preparations are set to be complete by the concerned committees to welcome the heroes and facilitate their stay throughout the championship.
